Manchester United are still in negotiations to bring World Cup winning defender Mats Hummels to Old Trafford ahead of Monday's deadline.
Louis van Gaal has been linked with bringing in a centre-back throughout the month but in recent days it has become clear United wouldn't sign anybody unless it was one of their top targets.
It's become clear over the period of van Gaal's time in charge that Hummels is a top target and there were suggestions United were close to a deal in the summer.
Now the Daily Mail suggest Borussia Dortmund are laying the foundations for the departure of their captain by targeting Aleksandar Dragovic of Dynamo Kiev.
Dragovic has also been linked with United in the last week or so but it now appears United believe they can still bring in Hummels before the deadline hits on Monday night.
The club would have to pay a huge £37m fee to bring the Germany international to the club, taking van Gaal's spending at Old Trafford to almost £200m during just his short six months in charge.
The summer proved a deal can go under the radar when Radamel Falcao emerged as a potential signing on the very morning of deadline day and United supporters will still hope to see a defender of some sort arrive to aid the club's top four hopes.
